Top technology and peripheral IBM (www.ibm.com) announced on Thursday, its new $360 million data center in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park campus.The facility was first announced in Aug 2008, where IBM said at the time it will renovate an existing building on the campus to create “one of the most technologically advanced and energy efficient data centers in the world”.
The company spoke person says the green data center uses only half the energy of a typical data center facility. IBM designed the new data center to support companies migrating over to the cloud technology. Currently IBM owns or operates more than 450 data centers around the world.
At the unveiling, North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue will be in attendance, while IBM senior executive in North Carolina Bob Greenberg will host the event. Pat Kerin, general manager for global technology services in North America at IBM, will also attend.
